Sacred Sabbath

Three hands joined, symbolizing unity across Abrahamic faiths in sacred rest

A Holy Invitation Across the Abrahamic Faiths
In the heart of the Torah's Ten Commandments stands the Fourth: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8). This divine charge is not merely a pause from labor but a sacred rhythm of rest, reflection, and renewal—echoing God's own cessation after creation (Genesis 2:2-3). Among the Ten, it receives the most elaborate detail, spanning four verses that weave in creation's blueprint, familial rest, and eternal covenant (Exodus 20:8-11).

For Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike, the Sabbath (Shabbat, Lord's Day, or Jumu'ah) calls us beyond cessation to holiness: a time for prayer, community, study, and delight in the Divine. Let us reclaim its depths—not as obligation, but as gift—fostering peace in our hurried world.
